Charlotte Martin - Power to Change

Germany Bound

Last week our four spring mission trips all successfully started with no travel hiccups. In fact last Saturday as the students were traveling for our final two trips, I didn't even think of it until I was heading to bed at night that students were flying out that day. In this case the "no news is good news" theory applies. If my phone was not pinging with notifications of travel complications, that means that everything went according to plan. Praise God!

Our first trip of the spring was a Mandarin speaking trip that went to Germany. Over the last week our team has been partnering with a local Chinese church to reach out to Chinese international students. They've been starting spiritual conversations on a nearby university campus, hosting picnics and sports times, and yesterday they had a music and story outreach.

Part of the vision for this trip is providing an opportunity for students involved in our Bridges international students ministry here in Canada, to go on a mission trip when they might be less comfortable going on a mission trip that's in English.

As I type this update I am in the Frankfurt airport waiting for one more flight before I join the trip for their last day of ministry as well as the trip debrief. Here's how you can join me in praying.

  • I will be sharing a devotional and also a brief workshop on "Sharing Your Story When You Return Home" during the debrief time. Pray for me as I only found out about these speaking times a few days ago and still need to prepare.

  • I will help the staff of the trip do one-on-one "debrief interviews." Pray for good listening skills and discernment as I help students process their experience on the mission trip.

  • One of the goals of the trip is to connect the Chinese students we meet with the Chinese church we are partnering with and inviting the students to join the church's gospel camp happening in May after we leave. Pray that we could connect many students to the church.

I will be with the mission trip May 10-17 then I will be traveling with a colleague for another week. Thanks so much for partnering with me in prayer over the next week. I look forward to sharing stories with you when I return.

Excited to serve Him,
