School of Discipleship - Psalms

School of Discipleship - Psalms with Dr. David Barker.

Tuesdays at 7-9pm at WBC (upstairs).

January 27 - March 17, 2026

$45 for materials (payable by cash or cheque at the first class).

Course Description:
As the people of faith in a confused world of triumph and tragedy, luxury and poverty, and civility and abuse, we not only need to hear a word from our God, but we also need to learn how to express our deepest hearts to our God. The book of Psalms wonderfully provides that vehicle for learning. From the heights of the ecstasies of joy to the despair of the darkest pain, the psalms express the full gamut of human response to God and his dealings in our world. Philip Yancey writes that the psalms are “journals of people who believe in a loving, gracious, faithful God in a world that keeps falling apart”. Their power and impact comes from reading, speaking, and hearing them as fellow pilgrims who share common experiences as the people of God. Our course in the psalms will include how we see the book as a whole, how we understand individual psalms, and a study of some of the various kinds of psalms in the Psalter. We will also give expositions of selected psalms. Our course is a "look over the shoulder" of believing pilgrims of yesterday in order to learn how to weep, sing, and pray today.

Grief Workshop: Understanding your grief

Come in the Admin Office - we will be meeting upstairs.

Are you grieving the death of a loved one? And in your grief, have you ever wondered, “Am I going crazy?” Grief can do that. It changes the way we think, feel, and related, and this change can make us feel like we’re losing it. In this workshop, we will explore the changes commonly associated with grief, and we’ll also talk about how to cope with your grief experience. Our hope is that you will leave the workshop with the understanding that you’re not crazy, you’re just grieving.

Note: This workshop is for individuals who are grieving the loss of a loved one. However, we also encourage caregivers to join the workshop. Maybe you can bring your grieving friend or family member with you.
