MERRY CHRISTMAS
Friends at, this December as I embrace the Advent season my heart is drawn to the imagery of light in the darkness. I have been reading a devotional called Darkness then Light and turning the lights down low in the evenings and sitting in the glow of candle light. This practice is as a reminder that just like Jesus came to earth to bring the light of salvation to a dark world, Jesus is a gentle light in the darkness of my grief this Christmas.
As I think ahead to the new year, I have a big adventure on the horizon. February 13-24 I will be helping to lead a mission trip to Honduras. I have never been to Honduras but I am told the tortillas are fresh, the smiles are sincere, and the people capture your heart.
While in Honduras we will partner with a family-run organization called Adventure in Missions (AIM). They run a bilingual English-Spanish Christian school, do medical outreach, and have connections with local rural communities that rely on them for various needs. Their dream is to bring positive social impact to Honduras by building future leaders through their school and outreach programs.
By partnering with AIM, we are giving our students a chance to be a part of God’s mission in the world and gain a heart for His global church. We pray and disciple students so that this will translate to how they engage with God’s mission on their own campuses back home. This week I meet with three students - Ellie, Hannah, Olivia - who are preparing to go on the trip. Here's what Olivia shared about why she's going:
"I was inspired by the testimonies shared by my peers about mission trips. I'm also seeking additional opportunities to serve others globally and enhance my confidence in sharing the gospel. I thought the Honduras mission trip would be a good opportunity to use my gifts from God and serve children by teaching them about God."
